Day One: Ready For My Slice Of The Pie
Day One: today’s sponsors are the two people who have been with me since my day one. Thank you to my parents for always being supportive of my crazy adventures and for encouraging me to always strive for more.
“If you don’t go after what you want, you’ll never have it.”
Today is another step in pursuing my goal of becoming a successful entrepreneur. After a week of driving and about a 1,000 miles, I have had plenty of time to reflect on what got me to this point in my career.
Over ten years ago, nine year old Courteney was intrigued with a small pie shop on a family road trip to South Dakota. I remember thinking how amazing it was that you could create something and share it with the world. Thankfully, I had very patient parents who listened to my ideas for a bakery I wanted to open for the next ten hours on our way home to Colorado. That initial spark, has only grown and has lead me to Draper University to begin this 119 day adventure.
This week on the way to San Mateo, I found myself in that same place I was as a nine year old, excited about the idea of new venture. Again, my parents were very patient and encouraging of the 1,000 ideas I talked about on the way to Draper University.
There is something about the brain of an entrepreneur, it doesn’t have an off or relax mode. It’s always looking at the world and thinking “ why isn’t that better or how can I fix that?”. This viewpoint of the world sparked by Sweet Pea’s Pie Shack in South Dakota has stayed with me to this day, always thinking about how I could make the world a better place.
Today I arrived at Draper University and officially moved into my dorm room, ready to find my slice of the Silicon Valley pie.
Cheers ,
Courteney
