Day Ninety Three: The Show Must Go On!

As a kid I loved to be on stage and entertain people. I was never really a shy kid and loved to make people laugh. I also love to dance and every couple months I got to show off my new dance moves in the seasons dance recital. One dance recital I can remember every moment exactly. We were dancing to Be Our Guest from Beauty and the Beast. I remember being so excited to show my family and the audience the dance moves we had been working so hard to perfect.

We started to dance and of course we were nailing it! Here comes the big move and then I remember my teacher coming up behind me. I had totally lost my little skirt but I had no care in the world, I must perform for my people! I continued to dance as my dance teacher tried to fix my skirt. I don't remember being embarrassed about totally losing my whole skirt on stage at all, I just remember killing the performance!

Working on Trader Jack today, I was listening to Spotify and Be Our Guest came on and I remember this memory. When did we lose the ability to not care about what others though and just be ourselves? I have noticed that starting a company is a lot like losing your skirt as a 6 year in a dance recital. You are doing your best to make it look like you have a clue whats going on but its all a mess but you keep trucking along! In a startup you are slowing piecing together the company and its going to messy but the show must keep going!

It's okay to be a complete mess but what matters is your efforts to keep pushing forward! I encourage you to embrace the messy parts because one day they will make a great founders story!

Cheers,

Courteney
