Day Fifty Six: Level Up

"Be the kind of woman that makes other women want to up their game."

On Thursday night I was able to attend Startup Grind where the guest speaker was Melody McCloskey, the founder and CEO of Style Seat. This women amazes me in her fearless pursuit to run the world. Seven years ago she started Style Seat and now she operates a multimillion dollar company. Through starting this fantastic company, she has empowered countless female entrepreneurs to become successful independent stylists, as opposed to the conventional route of working for corporate salons.

During her fireside chat Melody was incredibly honest about her peaks and valleys throughout her entrepreneurship journey. Just entering the world of entrepreneurship myself, I appreciated the honesty because I can already relate to her story. She discussed the lack of females in entrepreneurship and venture capital firms and spoke of the need to encourage more females to take on the challenges of being in the startup ecosystem.

We need more women like Melody. To step up. To empower other women. I love that she shared her true self with complete and brutal honesty. I am beyond grateful I was able to met Melody and hear her story. My goal is to inspire other women the way Melody has inspired me.

If we want to increase the number of females in venture capital and entrepreneurship, if we really want to drive change, we need to share the stories of these amazing women who are already living in the future!
